Congratulations to CMP Faculty Member Kevan Shokat, PhD, who received the 2017 Jonathan Kraft Prize for Excellence in Cancer Research
Boston, MA – The evening of May 3, 2017, was a special gathering for Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center leadership and faculty to celebrate the 2017 Jonathan Kraft Prize for Excellence in Cancer Research at the Liberty Hotel. On hand to present Kevan M. Shokat, PhD with this distinguished award for his outstanding contributions to chemical biology and cancer research were Mass General President, Dr. Peter Slavin, Robert and Jonathan Kraft, and Dr. Daniel A. Haber, Director of the Mass General Cancer Center.
Dr. Shokat is Professor of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology at the University of California San Francisco, Professor of Chemistry at UC Berkeley, Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and a Member of the National Academy of Sciences. He is widely recognized as a pre-eminent and highly innovative leader with a focus on novel chemical approaches for identifying substrates of protein and lipid kinases, and mapping their signaling networks. His groundbreaking research has helped to uncover the function of more than 100 different kinases across all disease areas including asthma, diabetes, neurological disorders, bacterial infections, drug addiction, chronic pain and cancer.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Shokat gave the keynote address at the annual Jonathan Kraft Symposium, presented by the Mass General Cancer Center.
